EcoCruisingEcoCruising Tours and Transport is a boating business locally owned and operated by long-time Victoria area residents' Brian and Roxy Smiley, and their son Matt. The Smileys are enthusiastic biologists with strong backgrounds in aquatic research, environmental science, ocean stewardship and ecotourism. Brian is a marine biologist retired from the federal Institute of Ocean Sciences; Roxy a past researcher of waterfowl and polar bears; and Matt an ex-commercial salmon fisherman, fisheries technician and coastal recreation.
The Gulf Islands National Park ReserveEstablished in 2003, Gulf Islands National Park Reserve safeguards a portion of British Columbia’s beautiful southern Gulf Islands archipelago. These islands are representative of the Strait of Georgia Lowlands, one of the most ecologically at risk natural regions in southern Canada. This small park reserve includes thirty-five square kilometres of land and intertidal area on fifteen islands, numerous islets and reefs, and approximately twenty-six square kilometres of marine areas which provide valuable habitat for seals and nesting shorebirds.
